Overview
Caring for the complex critically ill neonate is certainly both rewarding and challenging. While treatment strategies evolve, technology advances, and research progresses, it remains the goal of the patient care team to ensure and facilitate the best possible patient outcomes. The 30th Annual National Conference of Neonatal Nursing is designed to answer your questions as well as raise your awareness of the right questions to ask in order to achieve this goal.
If this is your first time attending "The National Conference of Neonatal Nursing", we welcome you! Join us and the other attendees, many of whom have come to several of these conferences over the years, as we celebrate the exceptional care you provide. If this is your second, fifth or even tenth conference with us, welcome back! Engage in conversations about the clinical challenges you face, and be re-energized by the enthusiasm of fellow clinicians from a variety of neonatal units.
Do you need more details about ideas or management approaches mentioned in a session? Take advantage of the availability of the expert faculty we've invited, who will gladly respond to your questions and interests. You'll return to work with a fresh perspective and "pearls" to share with your team.
Benefits of the 2012 conference include:
- Two full-day Preconference options:
" Advanced Neonatal Pathophysiology", highlighting normal physiology as well as the physiologic basis of selected disease states.
" Neonatal Feeding and Nutrition", focusing on the best nutritional support for the critically ill newborn and the safest way to provide it.
- Faculty experts who understand first-hand the unique challenges of caring for this very special patient population.
- Evidence-based content addressing a wide range of neonatal patient care needs and dilemmas.
- Direct clinical application of the evidence presented.
- Presentations addressing the current "hot topics" in neonatal nursing.
- Time to relax and take advantage of the many activities that Orlando has to offer.
Save the dates, and combine an outstanding educational experience with the fun and sun of Florida. Count on the faculty and your colleagues from across the country to motivate and inspire you. See you there!

PRECONFERENCE B
Wednesday, March 21
Neonatal Feeding and Nutrition
Nutritional support of the critically ill neonate is crucial to growth and healing. The importance of providing breast milk whenever possible is recognized as essential, and formula choices and differences remain puzzling. In addition, controversies continue over feeding methods, timing, complications and long-term outcomes. Investigate the most up-to-date feeding and nutrition strategies as they apply to your NICU patients.
This Preconference will enable you to:
- Outline the benefits of breast milk and current recommendations for obtaining and using donor breast milk.
- Examine short-term and long-term effects of early nutrition management.
- Evaluate commonly used formulas and recommendations for use.
