Conference Overview
“Hot off the Press” is our theme for the 22nd annual Contraceptive Technology Conferences, since we have a number of exciting updates to share with you in 2010! Get the scoop on the new STD Treatment Guidelines, issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, from an expert involved in updating these guidelines, Dr. Ward Cates. Be among the first to review the new Medical Eligibility Criteria for contraception — designed specifically for U.S. women! Dr. Kate Curtis, who helped develop the U.S. MEC, will cover what’s new in the current guidelines and help you apply the criteria to patients with challenging conditions.
Vaginitis, anyone? Dr. Jeanne Marrazzo knows it all and delivers the info with pizzazz. Ready to separate fact from fiction? Dr. Michael Policar tells you what’s fact and what’s fiction about drug interactions with contraceptives. So many of our Conference attendees come to meet the world-reknowned Dr. Robert Hatcher. You’ll hear him talk about his great passion — condoms — and have the opportunity to meet and interact with him throughout the Conference.
Of course, Contraceptive Technology Conferences are known for their focus on the latest technologies. Come and learn the newest scientific evidence on long-acting contraceptives. Find out about contraceptives that are in the pipeline and when they might be available. Think you know all there is to know about unintended pregnancy? Think again! And don’t even dream of leaving early, or you’ll miss one of the dynamic highlights of the Conference: the panel on “Late Breakers: Innovations in Reproductive Health.”
“But wait, there’s more,” as the saying goes, and at Contraceptive Technology there is! Review the program right now and you’ll find a variety of options and formats that cover just what you need to improve and update your practice. From hands-on trainings to Poster Presentations to “Stump the Experts” panels and interactive case study sessions, there is something for everyone. Whether you are new or a veteran in women’s health and family planning, plan now to join over 500 of your colleagues at this “not to be missed” educational event! See you there!

Location

San Francisco
San Francisco … one of the most fascinating, cosmopolitan and romantic cities in the world. There is so much to see and do – explore Fisherman’s Wharf with the frenetic energy of fishing boats, street performers and artists. Pier 39 is an extravaganza of shops and restaurants, where you’ll be amazed at the antics of hundreds of sea lions frolicking and basking in the sun. From here you can hop on a cable car and take in sweeping views of the bay, Alcatraz and the Golden Gate Bridge.
You won’t want to miss Golden Gate Park and its gem, the de Young Museum, a state-of-the-art facility showcasing priceless collections of American art and special exhibitions. The neighborhoods of San Francisco offer a unique look at the city’s ethnic diversity. Spend some time in Chinatown, or North Beach, the Italian quarter, and for an amazing view of the city’s landscape, hike up Telegraph Hill to Coit Tower.
Your trip to San Francisco would not be complete without a shopping spree and this city offers many opportunities for that! From the delightful boutiques of Union and Chestnut Streets to the designer shops on Union Square, you will not be disappointed.
Conference headquarters will be the dramatic Hyatt Regency San Francisco, with its impressive 20-story garden atrium lobby and a view from every room. Surrounded by a multitude of shops and restaurants, the hotel is within walking distance of the newly renovated Ferry Building, bustling with a Farmer’s Market, gourmet shops and restaurants. Watch the historic streetcars amble along the Embarcadero waterfront or board a ferry for a scenic trip to Sausalito or Tiburon. The California Street cable car line and Embarcadero BART station are steps from the lobby of the hotel, giving you easy access to all the sites and sounds of San Francisco.
Spend the evenings exploring the restaurants, clubs, and theaters of San Francisco. San Francisco has a love affair with food and you will find a wide range of cuisines, pricing, and restaurant styles. After dinner, head to trendy SoMa, the “see and be seen” club scene or take in Beach Blanket Babylon, the quirky, entertaining and riotously funny musical revue of San Francisco.
You might enjoy wine-tasting in the Napa and Sonoma Valley vineyards, or visiting Monterey, Carmel and Big Sur before or after the Conference. For more information about San Francisco and the surrounding areas, visit www.sfvisitor.org.
