Long-Acting Reversible Contraception (LARC), including IUCs and implants, meet the needs of many women for high efficacy against unintended pregnancy, convenience, low side effect profiles, non-contraceptive benefits and patient acceptability. In spite of this, clinicians are often reluctant to recommend these methods due to myths and misconceptions related to medical eligibility and potential short and long-term effects. This Preconference will enable you to:

  • Discuss the pharmacology of the LARC methods.
  • Identify the non-contraceptive benefits of LARC.
  • Describe management of bleeding and other possible side effects patients may experience.

Remembering the S-E-X in Reproductive Health Care

Thursday, October 7 - 8:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

Sex …pervasive in the media, but challenging to bring up with patients. And yet, it impacts our patients’ health and sense of well-being in a variety of ways. Body image, changes in libido, history of abuse, weight, hormones or lack thereof, age, partner status, all play a part. Attend this Preconference and gain practical communication and intervention strategies to be even more effective in dealing with your patients’ sexual concerns. Learn five nonverbal ways to show your patients that you value their sexual health as a priority, rather than an afterthought. Learn how to ask without being embarrassed, and to manage what you hear without feeling overwhelmed. Strategize how you can briefly address your patients’ sexual issues in the time limitations of an office visit and recognize when and where to refer patients with complex sexual concerns. Join your colleagues and these outstanding sexuality educators for what is certain to be a highlight of this conference.

This Preconference will enable you to:

  • Describe physiological and psychological issues which influence patients’ sexual well-being.
