HOT TOPICS IN PEDIATRIC PRIMARY CARE

Jackson Hole

Summer in Jackson Hole – breathtaking in beauty, backcountry solitude, western ambience – offers a vacation experience unmatched anywhere else.

Located in the northwestern corner of Wyoming, just an hour south of Yellowstone National Park, Jackson Hole is a lovely alpine valley dwarfed by snowcapped mountains, ringed by majestic stands of timber and dotted with high mountain lakes. Within its confines lie Grand Teton National Park, the National Elk Refuge and the friendly town of Jackson – gateway to Yellowstone National Park.

Set in the shadow of the towering Grand Teton Mountains, Jackson Hole is a unique blend of Old West charm and cosmopolitan atmosphere. Nowhere else on earth will you find such a magnificent display of nature mixed with unlimited activities.

For those who want a real taste of the Old West, Jackson Hole boasts some of the finest western entertainment and offers everything from an evening horseback ride and steak fry to an outdoor chuckwagon dinner. The picturesque stagecoach ride around the town square and the exciting shootout, held there every evening for the last 44 years, complete this western flavor.

The conference schedule has been arranged to allow time to enjoy the activities of the area. The Snake River, which winds its way along the base of the Tetons, provides a perfect playground for daytime excursions. You may choose a scenic float trip down the Snake as it uncoils its way through the valley or thrill to a whitewater adventure through one of its canyons.

The Grand Tetons may be the world’s greatest range of mountains to behold – majestic by day, mysterious by night; purple-pink at dawn, slate-blue at dusk; sometimes misty, sometimes clear, but always trimmed by snow. You can enjoy a hike on one of the clearly marked trails at the base of these spectacular mountains and capture the dazzling array of wild flowers, prolific animal wildlife, and the stunning peaks of the Grand Tetons which are among the most photographed in the world.

If you still have the energy after an active day, you can kick up your heels western style to live entertainment at the Million Dollar Cowboy Bar or attend the unique Jackson Hole rodeo. Over 40 restaurants in Jackson Hole offer menus to suit all tastes from sourdough pancakes at Jedediah’s to delicious prime rib in the lively atmosphere of the Mangy Moose and wild game at the Gun Barrel Steak and Game House. Experience the authenticity of a Paris bistro at Rendezvous Bistro or the creative cuisine and upscale atmosphere of the Blue Lion or Snake River Grill.

The arts also flourish in Jackson Hole during this time of year. You can enjoy the nightly concerts of the Grand Teton Music Festival at the superb Festival Hall at Teton Village where everything from Beethoven to Bartok is performed by some of the nation’s finest musicians. There are numerous art galleries displaying the works of a large number of wellknown artists who make their homes here.

You may also want to extend your stay to tour Yellowstone – our country’s first national park and largest outside of Alaska. Visiting Yellowstone is a unique opportunity to see a wide variety of wildlife – including moose, elk, buffalo, deer, coyote, eagles and maybe a bear – and visit the awesome thermal areas which have no rivals. The combination of the two contrasting elements of fire and water have produced a land of natural wonders.

Our conference site, the Snow King Resort, located at the base of Snow King Mountain, has a variety of activities and entertainment. Swim in the heated pool, relax in the hot tub or take the chairlift to the top of Snow King Mountain to enjoy the view of the valley and the Tetons. There’s even a game room for the kids while you enjoy the Shady Lady Saloon, featuring live jazz, rock and open-mike nights!

With such a wide array of beautiful scenery and exciting attractions, you won’t want to miss this opportunity to visit the spectacular area of the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone during this conference. Be sure to bring your family and friends … it’ll be a vacation like no other!
