Stop at one of the plazas along the way to enjoy the refreshing fountains, alfresco dining and a variety of daily special events. Prepare to have a good time in LoDo (Lower Downtown was the site of early Denver in 1870-1890). You’ll enjoy this “hip” historic district where restored Victorian buildings now house more than 90 sports bars, brew pubs and jazz clubs.
Live entertainment abounds in Denver from dinner theater to impromptu serenades on the downtown plazas. The Denver Performing Arts Complex, just blocks from our hotel, is the second largest in the nation with ten theatres which seats 10,000 people for theatre, symphony, opera and ballet. Denver has some of the best concert venues on earth, including the famous Red Rocks Amphitheatre, a 9,000-seat arena carved out of gigantic red rock boulders.
Walking is irresistible, but free shuttle buses cruise the milelong Mall, stopping at points of interest along the way. At Civic Center, adjacent to the shuttle turnaround, you can stand exactly one mile high on the 13th step of the State Capitol. Literally a “milestone”! The sweeping view of the Rocky Mountains is impressive, and becomes spectacular should you opt to climb 93 steps to the gold-plated dome.
